Published: 06 February 2023

BioAscent is a science-led drug discovery CRO with expertise in medicinal and synthetic chemistry, computational chemistry, in vitro biosciences, and compound management services (the storage and handling of the compound libraries used in drug discovery).  Our compound management team supports customers of all sizes, and manages compound libraries ranging from ten to over half a million compounds. Utilising state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, BioAscent have been providing compound management services for our customers for over 10 years. At BioAscent, all compounds are shipped by our dedicated Shipping and Logistics department, ensuring timely delivery to our valued clients.

Our Shipping and Logistics Assistant, Sean McCluskey, has written the following blog giving an insight into his position at BioAscent.

What is the most surprising part of your job?

“One of the most surprising aspects about working as a shipping and logistics assistant is the importance of strict compliance with regulations and guidelines related to the handling and transportation of pharmaceutical products. These products are commonly sensitive to temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors, and it is of the highest importance to ensure that they are handled and transported in a way that preserves their integrity and effectiveness.”

What is the most challenging part of your job?

“What I have found most challenging in my role is the impact that the external factors outside of our control can have on our day-to-day operations and how we must adapt to overcome them. Our operations can be affected by numerous outside influences including weather conditions, couriers’ availability, supplier issues. This was challenging for me when I first started the role, but I have quickly learnt how to overcome and work around these roadblocks to minimise the adverse effects on the business, and ensure things run smoothly for our customers.”

What part do you enjoy most?

“What I enjoy most in my role is the opportunity to learn. Since taking on this role I have worked closely with Gina Hanlon, the Shipping and Logistics Manager, and have been able to learn a lot about a wide range of topics including regulatory compliance, materials handling, and inventory management. I have also been given the chance to continue my learning through a course with the Institute of Export, learning more technical aspects of compliance and international shipping.”
