BioAscent recently took part in the Business Fives corporate charity football tournament, held at the Powerleague in Sighthill, Edinburgh.
The team raised a total of £770 for local charity Chris’s House while participating in the tournament. Chris’s House is a Wishaw-based charity focused on suicide awareness and has the first 24-hour non-medical crisis centre in Scotland. With a motto of “Lets talk”, Chris’s house has over 60 volunteers and is a safe environment for at-risk individuals to visit for support.
The tournament was made up of thirteen teams and was split into two leagues- the Champions League and the Europa League. While the BioAscent team started the day with an 8-1 victory, this success didn’t not continue and unfortunately they did not win any games in the Champions League group stage.
However, the team was far more successful during the Europa League, claiming the trophy for the semi-final. Our Medicinal Chemist Laura Bain was also crowned Ladies Player of the Tournament, earning herself an impressive trophy. Trophies were presented by former Hearts and St Johnstone player, Ryan Stevenson.
The BioAscent team had a fantastic day at the tournament, proving they work just as well together on the football pitch as they do in the lab, and took great pride in the amount of money raised for Chris’s House. This donation will contribute to the life-changing support that Chris’s House is able to provide to its guest and the wider community.
